Thinking back to people who have been in this position previously, what differentiated the ones who were good from the ones who were really great?
I found this on http://www.askamanager.com.  It's worked for others, and I just left the ranks of the unemployed using it, myself!  Give it a shot.  What's the worst that can happen? :)

So I'm on my 10th month of unemployment and I feel like I have to do something to help my situation, so if anyone has any recommendations or tips for me.

Excuse my breakdown message the last time. I'm often under the belief that getting a job is hard, but maybe that's an illusion. And if it's not, I can't live looking at my feet all the time because people lack Insurance, are homeless, etc ( Read more... )

Today I reached a point where I couldn't bring myself to apply for any jobs because I just didn't want to set myself up for more failure and rejection.

I'll probably be over it tomorrow, or at least later this week, but has anyone felt anything similar? Any advice on getting past this?

So far this year I've applied for 65 jobs and 3 volunteer organizations (4 if you count my offer to work free for a local co-op).  I apply to an average of 7 jobs a month (ranging from 3 to 13).  I've had 8 interviews (6 in or before March; 0 from an Internet job search); that's about 12% of my applications that result in face-time.
